Amazon is discontinuing its Music Storage service, which let paid subscribers upload and listen to up to 250,000 of their own songs. The service shuts down for good in January 2019, but you should get your music out before you forget the deadline and lose access to your personal library.

Listen to your tunes online with Amazon Cloud Player. Next, click 'Import your music' and you're prompted to get the Amazon Music Importer. Click 'Download Now' followed by 'Run', then click. Amazon Music Storage allowed free users to upload 250 songs, while users paying $24.99 per year could upload 250,000 songs. While free users were barred from uploading new music on December 18, paid users can continue to upload music as long as their subscription doesn’t expire. Should you forget to renew, you’ll be unable to restart your paid subscription, and you’ll only be able to access 250 songs while the rest of your library is removed courtesy of Amazon. Beat them to the punch and export them first.

Get Your Music Out of The Cloud

To relieve Amazon of the burden of storing the music you pay them to store, export your music before the 2019 deadline (or before your subscription expires). Download Amazon’s Music app to your computer, select your name in the top right corner, hit Preferences, and select either iTunes or Windows Media Player for export. Don’t see an option for iTunes? Open iTunes, visit Preferences > Advanced, and check the “Share iTunes library XML with other applications” option.

Google Play Music is A Decent Stopgap

Google Play Music supports user uploads of up to 50,000 songs, free of charge. It might be smaller than the 250,000 songs you’ve uploaded to Amazon, but if you’ve got some jams you can’t live without (or can’t find on any streaming service) feel free to upload them using Google’s Music Manager app.

Amazon Music (previously known as the Amazon MP3 Store) offers free software for downloading music purchases to your computer. After you purchase music or if you're a member of Amazon Prime Music, you'll enjoy that music in several different ways, including downloading it with a mobile or desktop app.

However, while it's true that Amazon's MP3 downloading tool might seem like the easiest way to download music to your computer, there is always the option of saving the songs through your browser, eliminating the need to download any software.

Download Amazon Music Through Your Web Browser

Sign in to your Amazon Music by entering your regular Amazon email or phone number, and your password.

  1. On the left side of the Amazon Music page, under the My Musicsection, find the content you intend to download.

  2. Place a check mark next to one or more songs that you want to download through your browser and then click the Download button. To select everything on the page, use the topmost check mark to capture all of it.

If you're downloading music from the Purchased section, you'll see a simple list of all the songs you've bought on Amazon.

If you're looking at an album of songs, and you want to download the entire album as a ZIP file, the download button is hidden away in a small button with three vertical dots. To select a specific song to download out of the album, you can hover your mouse over the song to see a different three-dot button that lets you download just that one song.

  3. A message displays that asks if you want to use the Amazon Music app to download the music. To save the Amazon music without using the app, click the link called No thanks. You may see a message that says that you need to authorize the device before you can download music. You can authorize several devices with your account, so click Authorize device to give your computer the authority to download music out of your account.
